New Book Addresses Teaching for Sustainability and Global Citizenship

Delighted to announce the arrival of my new book, Education for Sustainability and Global Citizenship: Intercultural, ethical, and justice-based approaches published by Bloomsbury (2025).

It asks how we can address teaching for sustainability and global citizenship for social-ecological justice based on alternative paradigms, and offers practical solutions for planetary citizenship for educators and policymakers, including teaching and curriculum guidelines.

Earth Charter International 2024 Conference

Reimagining Education for Ecological Civilizations, Florida, 12-14 April 2024.

The three-day conference built on four previous Earth Charter International (ECI) Conferences focused on education for sustainability and global citizenship, and for planetary well-being.

The recent conference truly reflected the spirit of the Earth Charter embodied by colleagues at ECI, the conference hosts, and participants.

Further, the presentations, keynotes, and discussions suggest growing evidence-based research and practice in the field of education for sustainability and global citizenship, and the use of the Earth Charter as a global ethical framework, and an educational approach.

The Earth Charter International at the University for Peace in Costa Rica is hosting a series of Masterclasses. Participants can sign up for any number of sessions.

The masterclass with Namrata Sharma is developed to engage participants with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7, which seeks to foster global citizens by 2030.

This class aims to:

  2. Explore some approaches to teaching and pedagogy, including from less widely known perspectives;
  3. Make connections between global citizenship education and the Earth Charter;
  4. Engage with practical ideas and support for teachers who want to introduce global education into their practice (including guides, resources and further readings);
  5. Provide links to networks of researchers and practitioners working in the field of global education, and related areas.
